An apparatus and method for supplying a power in a portable computer is provided to increase a time for using a battery by using an LDO(Low Drop Output) regulator. If a system power of a portable computer system is turned on(S10), an embedded controller checks a detected signal according to an AC adapter(S11). In case of the detected signal is high(S12), the embedded controller determines a system power mode as an AC adapter power mode(S13), enables an AC/DC converter, and disables the LDO regulator(S14). In case of the detected signal is low, the embedded controller determines and sets the system power mode into a battery power mode(S15).
