The device has two tool parts, one with a forming chamber (7) enclosed by a flange surface, and a holding-down part to press the flange edge of a component against the surface. Support bodies (21,21') with an elastic deformation element (13) for partial adjustment of the holding-down force, are positioned in a free space between the rear wall (23) of the deformation element away from the component, and one of the tool parts. The height of some of the support bodies is smaller than the height of the free space when the component is not clamped. When the component is clamped along its edge, the deformation element is deformed so that at least some of the support bodies are clamped between deformation element and tool part, and thereby support the element.
