PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dihydroxydiphenyl ether compound which is useful as a raw monomer for polymeric materials excellent in abrasion resistance, heat resistance and the like, and its simple manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The dihydroxydiphenyl ether compound is represented by formula (I) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>is a substituted or nonsubstituted alkyl group or a substituted or nonsubstituted aryl group; and R<SB>2</SB>to R<SB>7</SB>are each hydrogen, a halogen atom or a 1-6C substituted or nonsubstituted alkyl group).
