A device for controlling height of a shelf of a refrigerator is provided to simplify the control of position of shelves in a refrigerator in the vertical direction without detaching the shelves from the refrigerator, by using gear operation. A device for controlling height of a shelf of a refrigerator includes gear parts formed at both side surfaces of a refrigerating compartment in the vertical direction. A shelf(20) has height controlling gears(22) at both side surfaces to be engaged with those of the gear parts. Stopper elements limit rotation of the height controlling gears. The stopper elements are formed of stoppers(30) fitted to a side of the height controlling gears, and springs(32) for elastically supporting the stopper against the height controlling gears. The stoppers control rotation of the height controlling gears.
