PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic excellent in aging prevention, moisture retention, etc., of the skin and the hair and having high safety. SOLUTION: The cosmetic having high safety, exhibiting excellent effect on moisture retention of the skin, improvement, etc., of chapped skin and imparting dry touch to the skin while having a moisture retention property is obtained by directly using a polysaccharide extracted from petal of hibiscus and/or a polysaccharide extracted from Tremella fuciformis Berk. or formulating the polysaccharide with other ingredients. The polysaccharide used in the present invention is extracted by using ethanol as a preferable extraction solvent and comprises hexose, xylose, fucose and glucuronic acid which are each a natural substance.
