PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute angle detection device which has a resolution of 1.5°or less and a common divisor of 360°with a good separation, forms a double-line cord pattern and has eight pieces of a detection element is eight. SOLUTION: The absolute angle detection device comprises a rotation disc 1, a first double-line cord pattern 2 and a second cord pattern column 3 which are established on a circumference centering on a center of rotation 0 of the rotation disc 1, a first detection element group 10 which consists of five detection elements 4 to 8 arranged at equal interval opposite to the first cord pattern column 2, and a second detection element group 14 which consists of three detection elements 11 to 13 arranged at equal interval opposite to the second cord pattern column 3. A cord obtained with a combination of five cord signs supplied from the first detection element group 10 and a gray cord obtained with the combination of three cord signs supplied from the second detection element group 14 are designated as a circulation gray cord.
