The specification discloses a method of and apparatus for making elastic string, strapping or tape material, and such material made thereby, the method involving providing a stretchable plastics film web (11, 52, 53), split, if required, into individual webs (62) of predetermined width, the film web material having been cold stretched beyond its yield point either before or during forming of same, the method including passing the film web or webs (11, 52, 53, 62) through a forming device (12, 13, 24, 63) to form the string, strapping or tape having a transverse dimension less than that of the film web or webs (11, 52, 53, 62) prior to forming and a plurality of layers held closely adjacent to one another.
