(9S)-9-Amino-3,4,7,8,9,10-hexahydro-6,10-dioxo-6H-pyridazino(1,2-a)(1, 2)diazepine-1-carboxylic acid compounds (I) are new. (9S)-9-Amino-3,4,7,8,9,10-hexahydro-6,10-dioxo-6H-pyridazino(1,2-a)(1, 2)diazepine-1-carboxylic acid compounds of formula (I), in which the amino group is optionally protected, are new: R = H, 1-18C alkyl or 7-18C aralkyl. Independent claims are also included for: (1) (1RS,9S)-9-amino-1,2,3,4,7,8,9,10-octahydro-6,10-dioxo-6H-pyridazino(1 ,2-a)(1,2)diazepine-1-carboxylic acid compounds of formula (II), in which the amino group is optionally protected; (2) (1S,9S)-9-amino-1,2,3,4,7,8,9,10-octahydro-6,10-dioxo-6H-pyridazino(1, 2-a)(1,2)diazepine-1-carboxylic acid compounds of formula (III), in which the amino group is optionally protected: N.B. where R is t-butyl and the amino group is protected in the form of a phthalimido group is disclosed as being described in EP94095.
