PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium that has excellent dispersibility, especially dispersibility of ultrafine particle alloy powder, excellent filling properties, orientation, durability of magnetic layer, abrasion resistance, heat resistance, adhesiveness to a nonmagnetic substrate, etc. SOLUTION: The polyurethane resin comprises a polyol (A) represented by general formula (I) (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group or an aromatic group in which the number of carbon atoms of one or both of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>is≥6; Rs are each hydrogen, an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group or an aromatic group and may be different, respectively: n is an integer of 0-3; m is an integer of 1-3) and/or general formula (II) (R<SP>3</SP>s are each a≥6C aliphatic group, alicyclic group or aromatic group; R<SP>4</SP>s are each hydrogen, an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group or an aromatic group and may be different, respectively; Rs are each hydrogen, an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group or an aromatic group and may be different, respectively: o and q are each an integer of 0-3; p is an integer of 1-3) and a polyisocyanate (B) as constituent components.
