PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit which attains high picture quality and miniaturization while coping with environmental change. SOLUTION: Since lenses 1 to 3 constituting an image pickup optical system 50 are formed of a kind of plastic the refractive index of which changes with the change of temperature, there is possibility that deviation of a focus position may arise when temperature changes in a photographing environment. However, a microcomputer 28 performs auto focus (AF) processing to move the image pickup optical system 50 to a focal position, and thereby photographing is always performed in a state of being in focus to obtain an image of high picture quality regardless of temperature change.
