<p>1287517 Gas blast switches; electrically released switches LICENTIA PATENT-VER WALTUNGS GmbH 30 Jan 1970 [5 April 1969] 4717/70 Heading H1N A circuit breaker has two hollow movably mounted contacts 4, 5 in a compressed gas filled enclosure 3, the first contact 5 being latched in the closed position and urged to the open position by the pressure of the gas while the other contact 4 is resiliently mounted to initially follow the contact 5 in the opening movement. The latch is a resilient ring 27 expanded by a nmber 11 which can be withdrawn by a tripping linkage 23-25 (Fig. 2, not shown), whereupon the gas in chamber 3 drives a piston 9 to the right to open the contacts; valve members 13, 14 are also separated and a blast passes through the hollow contacts. After a delay the pressure in the outlet passages 22 acts on pistons 16 to close off outlets 15. Compressed gas is applied to conduit 18 to reclose the contacts by means of a piston 19; a valve 21 is also opened to allow the exhaust valves 15, 16 to re-open. The tripping rod 23 may be operated, through an expansion compensating hydraulic coupling (Fig. 2, not shown), by a piston permanently subject to compressed air but normally latched; this latch is then withdrawn by an electrodynamic device energized from a charged capacitor by an overload responsive relay.</p> |
