<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strainer in which the load imposed on a worker is reduced by simplifying maintenance work such as filter cleaning work and increasing the efficiency of the maintenance work and the natural environment is taken into consideration. <P>SOLUTION: This strainer 1 is provided with a cylindrical filtration basket 51 having many punched holes 51a on the peripheral wall and a filter element 50 having a meshed screen 52 to be inserted into the basket 51. The strainer 1 is used for filtering a water stream going from the inside of the element 50 to the outside.
