A medium exchange device or the like for removing a storage medium from a drive accessing a plenty of storage media such as optical discs and magnetic tapes contained in a container and mounting a desired storage medium among the plenty of storage media on the drive. It is possible to rapidly exchange storage media and reduce the device size. The medium exchange device includes a medium container (10) having a plurality of slots for containing storage media and a medium transfer section (20) for transferring a storage medium between the medium container (10) and a drive (30) on which a storage medium is detachably mounted and which accesses the storage medium mounted. The device further includes a temporary slot (13) where a storage medium is stored only temporarily. The medium transfer section (20) has two hands (21, 22) for transferring a storage medium between the medium container (10) and the drive (30).
