<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve recognition of the shape and front-rear relation in a remote control unit which does not use a dedicated device such as a remote control transmitter but recognizes a human body to perform control. <P>SOLUTION: The situation in a room etc., is photographed with a video camera 102 and a signal having gradations is sent to an image processor 103. The image processor 103 extracts the shape of a human body. Then the obtained signal is sent to a movement recognizing device 104 to recognize a moving body such as a human body. The practical movement includes, for example, the shape of a hand, the direction of eyeballs, and an indicating direction of a hand, etc. As an example of the shape of the hand, the channel 1 of television is received when only one finger is raised and the channel 2 of television is received when two fingers are raised.
