PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera operated with the same feeling whether it is operated with a right hand or a left hand. SOLUTION: A pair of release buttons 20L and 20R is provided on the upper surface of a camera body 12 formed to be gripped with the right hand or the left hand, and a monitor 28 is provided on the back of the camera body 12. The monitor 28 is constituted by laminating a touch panel on a liquid crystal panel, and its screen is formed to be long sideways. The operation button of the touch panel is displayed together with a picked-up image on the monitor 28. The operation button is moved and displayed corresponding to the hand with which the camera body 12 is gripped. When the camera body 12 is gripped with the right hand, the operation button is displayed at the right end of the monitor 28, and when the camera body 12 is gripped with the left hand, it is displayed at the left end of the monitor 28.
