PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal that can shorten the positional detection time. SOLUTION: In the portable terminal 10, when an input part 12 receives a position detection instruction from a user, a device communication part 14 starts communicating with a positional information storage device 30. When the device communication part 14 does not acquire the positional information stored in the positional information storage device 30 within a specified period of time, a GPS communication part 16 receives a radio wave from a GPS satellite and acquires the positional information of its self from the received radio wave, and a registration part 18 stores the positional information in a storage part 22. Namely, when a position detection instruction is input to the input part 12 from the user, the positional information storage device 30 is used to start position detection, which is completed in a time shorter than that of GPS measurement, prior to the position detection (GPS positioning) using the GPS satellite, thereby shortening the positional detection time, as compared with a conventional portable terminal that first begins with GPS measurement.
