PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moisturizer having a high skin-moisturizing ability and a cosmetic preparation. SOLUTION: The moisturizer contains an extract from a plant belonging to Saussurea spp., especially an extract from at least one plant chosen from the group consisting of Saussurea involucrate (Kar. et Kir.) Sch. Blp., Saussurea medusa Maxim. and Saussurea laniceps Hand. -Mazz. and glycerol as active ingredients. The cosmetic preparation preferably contains an extract from a plant belonging to Saussurea spp., especially an extract from at least one plant chosen from the group consisting of Saussurea involucrate (Kar. et Kir.)
