PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a displacement measuring device capable of exactly and easily attaching an arm to a specified position of a test piece. SOLUTION: The displacement measuring device is constituted so as to hold an upper arm 16 and a lower arm 17 reciprocatively movable on a guide rail 12 erected on a base 9 of a material testing machine. The displacement measuring device detects the positions of the upper arm 16 and the lower arm 17 and the positions of the position of an upper grasping piece 6 and a lower grasping piece 7 for grasping the test piece 100, using a linear scale 15, and calculates the center position C of the upper grasping piece 6 and the lower grasping piece 7. The upper arm 16 and the lower arm 17 move to the origin position, at equal distance with respect to the center position C and a specified gauge length (2×d) so that they are attached to the test piece 100.
