A method for finding common structural characteristics in a group of compounds having known common properties is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of firstly selecting a plurality of first binary data respectively representing a plurality of compounds having known properties common with each other and having known structures comprising a plurality of substructures. The method comprises then comparing said data so as to select a second plurality of data being data representing compounds of said first data having at least some common substructures.
