PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost steel sheet for an automobile structure which has excellent hardenability after high temperature forming, and to provide a method of using the same. SOLUTION: The steel sheet for hot forming has a surface roughness of 0.1 to 1μm by Ra, and has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.2 to 0.35% C,≤1% Si, 0.3 to 1.5% Mn, 0.01 to 0.1% Al, 0.001 to 0.04% Ti, 0.0005 to 0.005% B, 0.001 to 0.01% N,≤0.03% P,≤0.02% S, and≤0.015% O, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and/or subordinate components, and satisfying the inequalities (1) and (2).
