PURPOSE: A system and method for efficiently transmitting multimedia data packets are provided to reduce the size of headers by transmitting packet features through a supplementary channel before main link packets are transmitted through a main link so as to decrease packet overhead and obtain very high main link efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A transmission efficiency interface includes a two-way supplementary channel arranged to transmit information between a multimedia source device and a multimedia sink device. The transmitted information includes a set of packet features. The interface includes a one-way main link arranged to transfer a plurality of multimedia data packets from a transmitter unit(102) to a receiver unit(104) having a multimedia data packet header.
