PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide white particles which reduce quantity of transmitted light even through a thin particle layer, which exhibit large backscattering and improve luminance of white light, and to provide a white powder fluid and a picture display device using them. SOLUTION: The white particles 3W, which are used in the picture display device with the particles 3W, 3B sealed in between substrates 1, 2 of which at least one is a transparent substrate, placed opposite to each other, and for displaying a picture by applying an electric field to the particles so as to move them, comprises metal particles with fine protrusions and recessions on their surfaces, or resin particles coated with a metal on the surfaces and with fine protrusions and recessions on their surfaces.
