PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cap attaching/detaching structure of the leading end part of a side view type endoscope constituted so as to certainly mount a cap on the leading end part of an insertion part while reducing the longitudinal length of the leading end part of the insertion part. SOLUTION: In the structure of the leading end part of the side view type endoscope wherein a lateral notch part is provided in the side surface of the leading end part of the insertion part while an objective lens window is formed in a lateral notch part and a rotation preventing protruded part engaged with the lateral notch part is provided to the cap mounted on the leading end of the insertion part to form a window hole for exposing the objective lens window to the cap, an engaging groove having an arcuate shape on a front view excepting the lateral notch part is formed in the leading end of the insertion part so that the axial position thereof coincides with a part of the lateral notch part. An engaging ridge, which has an arcuate shape on a front view excepting the rotation preventing protruded part, engaged with the arcuate engaging groove is formed in the inner peripheral surface of the cap.
