PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pavement structure capable of effectively suppressing the rise of temperature by direct sunlight in summer on the road surface of a sidewalk or the like formed of paving blocks such as interlocking blocks without increasing labor, time and costs required for construction. SOLUTION: This water retentive pavement structure 1 includes a surface layer 2 comprising a plurality of paving blocks 3 and joint parts 4; a cushion layer 3; and a base course 6. The paving block 3 includes a water holding material formed of granules of autoclave-cured aerated concrete, at the mixing quantity of 0.16-0.20 m<SP>3</SP>/m<SP>3</SP>. At least one of the joint part 4 and cushion layer 3 includes 20-80 vol% sand and 20-80 vol% water holding material formed of granules of autoclave-cured aerated concrete with the average grain diameter (85% weight cumulative grain diameter) of 1.0-5.0 mm, respectively as independent granules.
