PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink-jet printer which efficiently carries out a cleaning operation for a recording head when a high-viscosity and ultraviolet curing ink is used as an ink for image recording. SOLUTION: The ink-jet printer 1 includes the recording head 4 which has a nozzle face 41 with nozzles 42 formed at one face, and discharges the high-viscosity ink onto a recording medium P; and an ultraviolet ray irradiation device which cures the ink by irradiating ultraviolet rays after the ink impacts on the recording medium P. The ink-jet printer 1 has a control part for controlling so that the cleaning operation for the recording head 4 is carried out only at the time when a device body power supply is turned on.
