PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply an appropriate steering reaction force to a steering wheel with simple structure in a steering device for a vehicle adopting a steer-by-wire. SOLUTION: The steer-by-wire type steering device drives a steering actuator installed on a steering box to steer wheels based on an electrical signal generated by the operation of the steering wheel, and operates a steering reaction force generation means 25 according to the operation of the steering wheel to apply the steering force to the steering wheel. A hydraulic damper 44 of the steering reaction force generation means 25 includes a piston 38 reciprocating according to the rotation of the steering shaft 24, a cylinder 37 slidably housing the piston 38, two liquid chambers 40, 41 formed so as to interpose the piston 38 to the both ends of the cylinder 37, and a variable throttle valve 43 provided in the communication passage 42 connecting the two liquid chambers 40, 41.
