PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system capable of realizing voice, image and handwriting communication high in quality, high in reliability and in excellent in operability between terminals low in performance and small in display screen. SOLUTION: A session control means 0302 performs voice calling and image and handwriting data communication without requiring reception-side permission. An image/handwriting data managing means 0316 has a plurality of planes (surfaces), displays basic image data in one of the planes and handwriting data in another plate, and displays those planes one over the other. An image data transmission control means 0305 and a reception control means 0306 transmit and receive the basic image data while switching their expedient name and data contents. A display control means has coordinate systems of the basic image data and handwriting data, exchanges positions that the handwriting data indicate between the terminal devices, and scrolls the basic image data and handwriting data so that they are displayed by a display means.
