PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type organic electroluminescent element having a structure whereby a production yield is enhanced and high resolution and high opening rate can be obtained. SOLUTION: As for this dual panel type organic electroluminescent element, an array element and an organic elecroluminescent diode element are formed on mutually different substrates to make it a top emission type, and in order to connect a second electrode to a connection electrode in a barrier forming part forming a non-luminescent region, mutually overlapped patterns are formed on an array substrate, and the region where the patterns and the connection electrode are overlapped is utilized as a projected region.
