<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of a fault in a staple unit by stapling a thick bundle of paper and staple jam by the staple fault. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet discharging apparatus comprises a stamp 501 for pressing the bundle of paper; a sensor flag 503 mounted to the opposite side via the operating support member of the stamp; and a sensor 504 for detecting the sensor flag 503.
