The device has a detector (3) placed below a bonnet (2) of an engine and pushed down without resistance when the bonnet is deformed. A locking mechanism maintains a heat exchanger (1) in a normal position in proximity to the bonnet and a release mechanism reacts to the displacement of the detector to free the locking mechanism. A control mechanism acts on the exchanger to move the bonnet, when locking mechanism is released.
