In an elongated absorbent article having rear inner compression grooves (11D, 11D) extending symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal centerline (Oy-Oy) of an article disposed in the rear half of the absorbent article, determining a rear central region (20D) therebetween, and having a rear connection compression groove (14) connecting the rear ends of the rear inner compression grooves (11D, 11D), thereby determining the rear end of the rear central region (20D), the rear central region (20D) has formed therein a back compression section (18) where a liquid absorbing layer (4) is recessed from the garment- side surface to the skin-side surface and extends along the longitudinal centerline, the rear end (18b) of the back compression section (18) being positioned forwardly of the rear connection compression groove (14).
