<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new diazonium salt having the maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) exceeding 400 nm, and to provide a heat-sensitive recording material which has excellent storability and excellent photofixity with a light source having the maximum absorption wavelength exceeding 400 nm and whose ground skin is little colored. <P>SOLUTION: This diazonium salt represented by general formula (I) (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently an alkyl or an aryl; R<SP>3</SP>is an alkoxy, an aryloxy, an alkylamino, an acylamino, or an arylcarbonylamino, which may further have one or more substituents; X- is an anion).
