A process for the manufacture of ceramic carbon composite

A process for producing ceramic-carbon composite materials involves (a) subjecting raw coke to mechanical treatment and grinding to 0.5-6 microns particle size; (b) combining the particles with silicon carbide and/or boron carbide powder of 12-15 microns (800-1200 mesh) particle size; (c) pressing the mixture at 350-900 kg./cm.<2>; (d) sintering in a first inert (pref. nitrogen) atmosphere at 800-1200 with a heat-up rate of 1-10 deg C/min.; and (e) heating the sintered material in a second inert (pref. argon) atmosphere at 2000-2400 deg C. Also claimed is a ceramic-carbon composite material obtained by the above process.
