PURPOSE: A method for using an independent telephone directory at a prefix on a cellular phone is provided to separately store prefix numbers in order to use telephone numbers stored in a telephone directory under different environments, and to separately manage the stored prefix numbers, thereby easily interworking with the telephone directory and easily managing users' origination records. CONSTITUTION: If a user selects an environment setup menu from a cellular phone menu item(S100), a controller displays the environment setup menu on a screen(S102). The user selects a prefix setup function of a telephone directory from an environment setup menu item(S104). The controller displays a prefix setup menu of the telephone directory(S106). The user selects an automatic prefix or a user selection prefix from a prefix menu item(S108). If the user inputs a desired prefix number, the controller stores the prefix number in a memory(S110).
