PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve efficiency of distortion compensation in a distortion compensation apparatus for compensating a distortion generated in an amplifier for amplifying a signal. SOLUTION: A signal level detecting means 1 detects the level of a signal to be amplified by an amplifier 5. Distortion compensation executing means 2-4 execute distortion compensation for the signal to be amplified by the amplifier 5 on the basis of a distortion compensation mode corresponding to a signal level to be detected, on the basis of correlation between a distortion compensation level deciding the distortion compensation mode and a distortion compensation control value. A distortion compensation control value correlation updating means 6 updates the correlation between the distortion compensation control value to be used for execution of the distortion compensation and the signal level, on the basis of the signal amplified by the amplifier 5. An update amount control means 6 controls an amount at which the correlation between the distortion compensation control value and the signal level is updated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
