The reinforcing clamp comprises two plates (4,4) each having a rectilinear edge (4a, 4a) held together by a number of metal shafts (6). Each shaft has a head (6a) and gripping grooves (6b) engaging a gripping ring (7). The plates are held between the head of the shaft and the ring, and the ring itself is clamped on to the shaft. The reinforcing clamp for joints in the contact cable of a catenary system comprises two plates (4,4) each having a rectilinear edge (4a, 4a). Two sections of cable to be joined are gripped between the opposed edges of the pair of plates. The two plates are held together by a number of metal shafts (6) which pass through holes (5,5) in the plates. The metal shafts lie parallel to each other and are perpendicular to the plates and the line of the cables. Each shaft has a head (6a) and gripping grooves (6b). There is also a gripping ring (7) fitted to each head. The plates are held between the head of the shaft and the ring, and the ring itself is clamped on to the shaft. The plates may be made of metals or alloys which are different - for example one may be copper or an alloy, and the other stainless steel.
