<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sign language interpreting system which can establish conversation smoothly between deaf persons using different sign languages each other or the deaf person and a hearing-unimpaired listener. <P>SOLUTION: The sign language interpreting system comprises at least one unit of a terminal device 1 to be used by the deaf person or the hearing-unimpaired listener and a sign language interpreting center 3 for sending and receiving a moving image and voice data with this terminal device 1 via a communication medium 2. The sign language interpreting center 3 comprises a server 4 and a plurality of sign language interpreting devices 5. A plurality of sign language interpreters who are capable of interpreting a plurality of the sign languages are stationed at the sign language interpreting center 3. When the conversation between the deaf persons using the different sign languages each other or the deaf person and the listener becomes necessary, the moving image for the sign language is transmitted from the terminal device 1 to the sign language interpreting device 5, and the sign language interpreters perform interpretation for the sign languages. Since its result is transmitted to the terminal device 1 with the voice or the sign language, the conversation can be realized in nearly real time between the persons who do not understand the sign languages without uncomfortable feeling. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
