PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool, which can lower the height of the machine tool, while securing the area and the number of the peripheral portions that serve as tool mounting portions of a turret, and to shorten the loading and unloading time of a workpiece by lowering the position of a loader, when a gantry loader is used. SOLUTION: The machine tool has the turret 3 which swivels about a swivelling center Q parallel to the axis O of a main spindle 2. The machine tool is particularly useful, when the gantry loader 21 is provided. In this machine tool, the swivelling center Q of the turret is positioned lower than the axis O of the main spindle 2. The peripheral surface part S of the outer periphery of the turret 3, to which tools can be attached, is perpendicular to the travelling direction X of the turret 3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
