PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a locally intense magnetic field on a developer carrier while securing mechanical strength for brittleness. SOLUTION: A pointed magnet 60 is used as a main magnetic pole P1b constituting a magnet roller 44 which is arranged in a developing sleeve and generates a magnetic field for carrying a developer containing a magnetic carrier on the developing sleeve. This pointed magnet has its end pointed on the side extending to the outside of the developing sleeve, so the tip width of the pointed magnet 60 can be made narrow while its large size is maintained. Consequently, while mechanical strength for brittleness of the main magnetic pole P1b is secured, the intense magnetic field can be generated locally on the developing sleeve. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
