PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutter for optical fiber for forming a sloped end surface on the optical fiber with predetermined accuracy in shape, and forming simultaneously sloped end surfaces with such accuracy in shape on a plurality of the parallelled optical fiber with a predetermined accuracy in position. SOLUTION: The cutter is provided with a cutting means and a holding means, and forms the sloped end surface on the optical fiber by cutting the optical fiber in order to join a pair of scratches by shearing force and tensile force. The cutting means is provided with a pair of blades to be arranged in order to press the optical fiber and simultaneously to face to an axial center of the optical fiber, and imparts the shearing force along a line joining the pair of blades to the optical fiber while developing a pair of scratches into the optical fiber with the pair of the blades by pressing at least one blade. The holding means imparts the tensile force along the axial center of the optical fiber to the optical fiber with tension by holding the optical fiber from both sides of the cutting means along the axial center of the optical fiber.
