The valve component (2) for a pre-sprung check valve has a cross sectional reduction downstream of its spherical form sealing face (5) and this changes continuously into the equator (13) of the valve component. The cross sectional reduction may take place abruptly, may be a waisting, and may form a cylindrical section (12). The spherical sealing face changes into the cross sectional reduction of the valve component over a small radius.
