PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of defining a coordinate system for intuitively, quickly and accurately specifying parameters for defining the coordinate system in a three-dimensional space. SOLUTION: The method of defining the three-dimensional coordinate system in the three-dimensional space comprises specifying the parameters for determining the coordinate system to be defined by allowing a user using a pointing device to input a first peak point P1 of a displayed three-dimensional configuration model for (S1) and set a resulting coordinate value for the point P1 as an original point of the coordinate system to be defined (S2), to input a second peak point P2 (S3) and set a direction V1 from the original point to the point P2 as a X-axial direction of the coordinate system to be defined (S4), to input a third peak point P3 (S5) and set a direction V2 from the original point to the point P3 as a Z-axial direction of the coordinate system to be defined (S6), and to set the outer product of the V1 and V2 in a Y-axial direction.
