POLARIZATION CONVERSION FILM, POLARIZATION ELEMENT, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING POLARIZATION CONVERSION FILM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization conversion film having superior productivity and by which light utilization efficiency is increased and particularly, a brightness enhancement effect is high in a reflection type and a semitransmission type liquid crystal display element.

SOLUTION: The polarization conversion film comprises: a polarization separating layer 1 separating non-polarized incident light L into two straight line polarization in which electric field vectors are orthogonally intersected each other; and a polarization transformation layer 2 conversing the polarization state of the straight line polarization. The polarization separating layer 1 consists of a birefringence diffraction grating. The polarization separating layer 2 has a birefringence compound m slantingly oriented with respect to a film surface.
