The compressor (10) has a plate cam (23) to provide the pumping motion, and can alter the initial angle of the plate by adjusting a stop (28) when the compressor shaft (19) is not driven. When the shaft is driven but fluid circulation is not required, the stop is displaced to reduce the angle of the cam to reduce the compression performed the compressor.
