PURPOSE: Provided are a method for producing a pancreatic amylase inhibitor using herbal extracts obtained from peppermint and cinnamon and a composition containing the same for inhibiting carbohydrate uptake. Therefore, the composition is useful as a therapeutic agent for diabetes. CONSTITUTION: A pancreatic amylase inhibitor is characteristically obtained by extracting peppermint and cinnamon, wherein the pancreatic amylase is isolated from rabbit, human, pig, mouse, guinea pig or rat. A composition for inhibiting carbohydrate uptake is characterized by containing the extract of peppermint and cinnamon as an active ingredient, and used for the treatment of diabetes.
