PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer from which an ink adhered to a member which is repeatedly used, can be sufficiently removed even if the ink is preliminarily discharged from a recording head toward the member. SOLUTION: An ink jet printer 1 has transfer means 4, 5 for conveying a recording medium R to fore-and-aft direction, a line head 2 extended to right and left direction and a roller member 3 extending therethrough and revolved to right and left direction in the line head 2 and opposed to the lined head 2. The printer 1 further has a moving means for moving the roller member 3 to right and left direction (not shown), and a removing means 8 always brought into contact with the outer peripheral surface 3a of the roller member 3 for removing the ink adhered to the outer peripheral surface 3a of the roller member 3. A trench which is perpendicular to the right and left direction along a circumference of the roller member 3 and a protrusion which is perpendicular to the right and left direction along the circumference of the roller member 3 are alternatively repeatedly formed on the outer periphery 3c of the roller member 3, and the line head 2 preliminarily discharges the ink toward the trench.
