PURPOSE: A sensing circuit is provided to overcome the effect of a bit line and to obtain efficient charge to voltage conversion gain by using a charge integrating sense amplifier. CONSTITUTION: A sensing circuit for sensing an electrical charge stored in a capacitor element comprises a charge integrator circuit(4) arranged to receive an electrical charge from a capacitor element, and a discriminator circuit(6) coupled in series with the charge integrator circuit. The discriminator circuit(6) further includes a first input arranged to receive an output signal from the integrator commit and a second input arranged to receive a reference voltage signal.
