<p>A method and a system for using information contained in a digital television transmission for controlling the functions of a device, said device being either a terminal (STB) connected to a television network (TVNET) or a peripheral device (ED) connected to a terminal. The device to be controlled functions in accordance with setting data given for the terminal (STB) in advance and control data transferred via the digital television network (TVNET) and/or mobile communication network (NET2) without the control of the user.
