<p>The apparatus has a unit for sensing the operating state or operating condition of the engine (1). It also has an engine control unit (10) for detecting an abnormal state of an engine control system with an actuator for adjusting the quantity of fuel injected, the exhaust quantity, injection pressure or engine torque according to the operating state or condition. A further control unit issues a command to the engine control unit to change the fuel quantity, injection pressure or engine torque. The engine control unit has a device for calculating an abnormality assessment value to determine whether the engine control system is in an abnormal state. It also has a device to detect whether the abnormal state is one in which a predetermined match value can be compared with an abnormality assessment value. A match value can be changed to lock an abnormality condition during the time the command to change the fuel quantity, pressure or torque is issued and a change in the operating state or condition can be recognized.</p> |
