1,260,781. Adjusting suspension height. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. 12 June, 1970 [18 June, 1969], No. 28521/70. Heading B7D. A valve 6 in a conduit 5 connecting a levelling valve 4 to pneumatic or hydropneumatic suspension units 7 is opened to allow free communication between the levelling valve and the units 7 only when pressure rises in a brake conduit 9 due to application of brakes 11 by -actuating a master cylinder 8. The valve 6 includes a sliding element 102 which is displaced against spring loading 105 to align a transverse bore 103 with a passage 101 in the line 5 when a space 110 above a flexible diaphragm 107 is pressurized to a predetermined extent from the brake conduit 9 through a conduit 10. A non-return valve 114 having a throttle passage 115 allows rapid opening of the valve 6 when the brakes are applied so that the levelling valve 4 is effective to counteract brake dive, and delays closure of the valve 6 when the brakes are released so that the pressure in the suspension units 7 is restored to normal. The valve 6 may permit heavily throttled communication between the levelling valve 4 and the suspension units 7 when the brakes are not applied to allow the suspension height to be adjusted when the vehicle load varies without applying the brakes. |
